One Year Anniversary of Lolita's Rainy Day
Looking back from when I first self-published and released Lolita's Rainy Day on November 26, 2016, I have so much to be thankful for, including all that I've learned along the way. When I first wrote the story in 2015 for a project, I never imagined it would take me on this wonderful, life-changing journey.
While I have sold many copies to family, friends, and fans as far as Great Britain, I also donated countless copies to schools, teachers, daycares, and after school programs. It goes without saying that Lolita's Rainy Day is a book that teaches financial literacy to children, specifically earning an allowance and saving money for a rainy day. It is noteworthy that many of the children I met and read the book to in the past year are socioeconomically challenged. Knowing this gives me the urge and drive to continue on my mission teaching children that, "Every penny counts!"
I have a special message for those who find it difficult to save money, whether it's due to their financial obligations, income, or lack of financial literacy. "You're not alone!...It happens!" Set your mind to establishing and living off of a budget. Having a written budget gives you a clear picture of how much or how little comes in, and how much goes out. This does not mean that you cannot pay yourself first, even if it's only a dollar or two each week or month. Your children will learn from you and will learn to value money, and to never take a penny for granted. Talk to your children about money, engage in conversations with them, and allow them to participate when grocery shopping, and remember to share your written budget with them. These are all real life lessons your children will never forget.
I want to thank each and every one of you who have supported me on my mission by purchasing a copy of Lolita's Rainy Day whether for keepsake, to gift a child, or donate. Your support and words of encouragement mean more to me than you could ever imagine. After all, I was once Lolita and now I have big goals, and am on a mission to pay my blessings forward, one penny at a time, because "Every penny counts!"
